Boat Harbour Tasmania – A Must-Visit Tassie Gem

A travel guide to Boat Harbour in Tasmania. Visit one of Tasmania’s most scenic coastal gems in the north of the island state. Includes details on how to get here, what to expect and where to stay!

If you’re after beautiful, white-sand beaches and beautiful, calm turquoise waters but would rather skip on the crowds, I’ve got you covered. Boat Harbour is one of my favourite beaches in Tasmania and I consider this beautiful coastal spot one of the best hidden gems in the state.

Admittedly, this little coastal town is quite small. But, that’s how it gets it charm. This is the perfect spot to visit if you’re looking to wind down for an afternoon, or even to stay for a couple of weeks! In this guide, I’ll aim to cover everything you need to know about Boat Harbour Tasmania to help you plan your visit.

NORTHERN COASTLINE OF TASMANIA

Where is Boat Harbour

Boat Harbour is an iconic coastal town lapped by incredible turquoise water and a beautiful white sand beach in the north of Tasmania. The township is located approximately 77 kilometres from Devonport or 47 kilometres from Stanley.

How to Get to Boat Harbour

Boat Harbour is very accessible as it's really just a quick detour off the Bass Highway between Devonport and Stanley. However, much like most regions in Tasmania, you'll need your own car to get here.

The best way to navigate to Boat Harbour is to plug in the Google Maps pin above. Otherwise, simply head west on the Bass Highway from Devonport and turn off at "Port Road". Follow this road around the bend and turn right immediately after. Then, continue down this narrow stretch of road until you arrive at Boat Harbour Beach.

Car Rentals in Tasmania

Unfortunately, the cost of bringing your own car on the Spirit of Tasmania has skyrocketed in recent years.

Now, it is usually cheaper to rent a car on arrival. I recommend using RentalCars.com in Tasmania to compare rates for different vehicles across dealerships.

(Rentals are limited in Tasmania so it's a good idea to book in advance).

Boat Harbour Beach

Boat Harbour Beach has to be one of the most scenic beaches in Tasmania. While arguably just as beautiful as The Bay of Fires or even Wineglass Bay in the East, this northern spot gets nowhere near the amount of attention.

The beach at boat harbour is lined with white sand that drops into the translucent turquoise water. This beach is a popular spot for locals in the surrounding regions to enjoy a day at the beach but is little visited by tourists.
