Where is Grand Anse on La DIgue?

Grand Anse is located on the south east side of La Digue. It's accessible via a jungle road heading in from L'Union, meaning you can ride your bike here.

Below I've included the exact location to help you find it.

Best Travel Insurance for Seychelles

Important: All visitors to Seychelles must show proof of travel insurance covering expenses related to COVID-19. One of the best offerings with COVID inclusion is from Safetywing, which has cover starting at under $50.

How to Get To the Beach

As you might already know, the best way to get around on La Digue is to rent a bike and explore. You can rent one for roughly 100 SCR per day. I stayed at Chateau St Cloud and they arranged a bike for me for when I arrived.

For directions from L'Union, which is the port-side (west) of the island where you'll also find L'Union Estate and the famous Anse Source D'Argent, you'll want to head inland to the interior road, accessible via sealed access roads. From here, follow it south. There are a few hills to climb along the way, but nothing too dramatic.

If you input the location on the map above, you'll easily find your way to Grand Anse.

What to Expect at Grand Anse La Digue

Grand Anse is my personal favorite beach on La Digue Island, and perhaps even anywhere in the Seychelles.

Grand Anse La Digue Seychelles

This beautiful stretch of white sand drops into the deep, aquatic-blue water. Along the shore, you'll see tall coconut palms above some small local huts selling fresh fruit and cold Seybrew.

On the northern end of Grand Anse is a far-reaching pile of beautiful, weathered granite rock formations that make this island so unique.

Behind Grand Anse is a short nature trail that passes a small lagoon. This area is rich in birdlife and is very beautiful.

Grand Anse Sunrise Viewpoint

The first time I visited Grand Anse on La Digue, I noticed the large granite rock pile on the northern end. Immediately, I knew that I had to climb it to check out the view from the top. I was really blown away by this viewpoint, so much so that I decided to return the very next morning for sunrise.

You can access this large granite boulder crop by following the trail directly behind the beach. Once you reach the top of a small hill, don't descend but instead, cut in to the right. You'll need to use some bouldering skills to reach the top but it's nothing too dramatic.

From the viewpoint, you'll have the best view of Grand Anse, as well as Petite Anse right next door!

Continuing on to Anse Songe (Anse Songe Trail)

If you're up for a micro-adventure, then make sure to leave enough time to walk the Anse Songe Trail. This short, 1-kilometer jungle track leads to the southern beach of Anse Songe. You'll find the trailhead on the right just 150 meters before you reach the bicycle parking area at Grand Anse.

The trail is easy to follow and there's only one short incline stretch. Once you descend back down to the shore, you'll find a beautiful little secluded beach hidden behind a large boulder. Continuing on, Anse Songe is a boulder-covered stretch of white sand leading into shallow, turquoise waters.

Where to Stay on La Digue Island

La Digue is quite a small island and you can get anywhere on a bicycle within 20-30 minutes. You'll find a lot of hotels on the west side of the island near the jetty but only a few along the narrow stretch of coastal road on the mostly inhabited eastern side.

On La Digue, there are a wide variety of hotel and resort offerings ranging from relatively "budget friendly" self-catering lodges to incredible luxury resorts.

Below is a quick summary of the best picks.

  • Amazing Chateau: Hotel Chateau St Cloud (Mid-Range) - This is where I stayed on La Digue and I can personally recommend it as one of the best accommodation options on the island. This three-star hotel is perfect as a mid-range option as the location is excellent– just a little out from the main area on a quiet street that is close enough to both the incredible southwest beaches and the port.
  • Waterfront Hotel: Le Nautique (High-end) - Rated as one of the best waterfront accommodations on La Digue, Le Nautique is a luxurious offering combining traditional Creole architecture with modern comforts including king-sized beds and rain-showers. Here, you'll also discover an amazing outdoor restaurant and beautiful garden surrounds.
  • Self Catering: Dream Holiday (Budget) -located on the northern end of the island very close to the ferry terminal. Offers queen rooms with air-conditioning, TV, private bathrooms, and even a balcony. This is a great option if you're visiting La Digue on a budget while comfort and location are still a priority for you.
