Hogarth Falls In Strahan – Tasmania Waterfall Guide

A quick waterfall guide featuring everything you need to know to visit Hogarth Falls in Strahan, Tasmania. Includes how to get here, what to expect and photos of the waterfall to inspire your adventures.

While there’s just so much to see and do on Tasmania’s wild West Coast, the unfortunate truth is that many miss it! If you’ve made it to this blog post, then congratulations, you’re in for a treat!

In this guide, I will highlight one of the many attractions on Tasmania’s west coast; Hogarth Falls, near the township of Strahan. This is a beautiful forest waterfall that is very easily accessible and only requires a short, yet scenic walk close to town.

Where is Hogarth Falls

One great thing about Hogarth Falls is just how easily accessible this waterfall is. Visitors will find the car park to the waterfall track just a few minute's drive from Strahan Ferry Port in Long Bay. Below is the exact location of the waterfall car park, where you can begin the walk to the waterfall.

How to Get to Hogarth Falls

To get to Hogarth Falls, you can either drive to the car park pinned above or just walk here from the harbour. Follow the "Esplanade" around the bend, past the Bay and Fish Co, and you will soon see a white picket fence. This is the park reserve known as "Peoples Park" and is also the start point for the short walk to the falls.

You'll also find a toilet block and even undercover BBQ facilities here!

Car Rentals in Tasmania

Unfortunately, the cost of bringing your own car on the Spirit of Tasmania has skyrocketed in recent years.

Now, it is usually cheaper to rent a car on arrival. I recommend using RentalCars.com in Tasmania to compare rates for different vehicles across dealerships.

(Rentals are limited in Tasmania so it's a good idea to book in advance).

The Hogarth Falls Walk

  • Hiking Distance: 2.1 km return
  • Duration: 45 minutes - 1 hour return
  • Elevation: N/A
  • Difficulty: Very easy

The Hogarth Falls walk begins from People's Park and is very well signed and easy to navigate. In reality, it's more of an urban walk than a rainforest hike, but the beautiful natural surrounds will make you feel like you're deep in the Tarkine.

You'll find many iconic Tasmanian trees here, including sassafras, myrtle and leatherwood.

HOGARTH FALLS TASMANIA

The walk is mostly flat and follows sections of wide, cleared track and wooden boardwalk. After approximately 1 kilometre, you'll need to climb a short, easy section before descending down beneath the main waterfall at Hogarth Falls.

STRAHAN: 7 Epic Things to Do

What to Expect at Hogarth Falls Tasmania

Once you descend the short flight of wooden stairs, you'll arrive at the base of the upper tier of Hogarth Falls. This spot is actually between the two tiers, meaning you can get a great view of the main waterfall and even look down to the lower cascade behind you.

In total, Hogarth Falls is roughly 15 metres tall, with the largest drop being the upper tier. Hogarth Falls is a very scenic waterfall that is definitely worth the quick stop when in Strahan.

While probably not recommended, I walked around the fence at the upper tier to follow a short, worn track to the top of the upper tier. Here I managed to capture a few extra shots of the waterfall from above.
