Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu Waterfall Guide – Lombok

Complete waterfall guide to Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu waterfalls in central Lombok! How to get here, updated information on fees, plus what to expect!

Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu waterfalls are two of the best falls on the island of Lombok, and that’s saying something! The GeoPark Area sits on the sloping hills of Mount Rinjani, where freshwater flows down thick volcanic veins and pouts into the dense jungle waterfalls below.

How to Get to Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu Waterfall

These waterfalls are located in the Central Lombok Regency, approximately 1.5 hours from Senggigi, or 45 minutes from Tetebatu. The village is known as Teratak Village in North Batukliang District. They are all located within the same Geopark Area and can be accessed via a short hike from one another.

I’ve pinned the location of the Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu waterfalls below to help you find the location.

Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu Waterfall Entrance Fee 2019

Once you reach the entrance gate to the Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu Waterfall Geopark, you’ll be directed to a building around to the right. You can park your motorbike just beside it for free.

Inside, you’ll need to pay the entrance fee. For some reason, they’ve recently split up the fees for different “packages”. I think this is in attempts to get more people to hire a local guide. I’m all for supporting local tourism and guides. However, these guys were extremely pushy and tried to claim that a guide was compulsory, which it definitely is not.

After a little bit of negotiating, we convinced them to let us enter for 35 000 IDR each without a local guide. At the end of the day, this is still the most I’ve ever paid for an Indonesia waterfall entry fee. While the prices, boards, and receipts look legitimate and official, don’t be fooled into paying an unfair waterfall entry price.

Hiring a Local Guide

If you’d prefer to hire a local guide, it’s a great way to get more information about these Lombok waterfalls. You’ll also have an easier time trying to find the other two hidden waterfalls (I’ll get into more detail on these later).

The price of a local guide will vary. A fair price would be around 75 000 IDR.

Waterfall Tour

If you don’t have your own set of wheels, or you don’t want to have to bargain for the entry, then a great way to see Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu waterfall is to take a full-day waterfall tour.

The tour I’ve linked below includes all costs and organizes accommodation pickup and dropoff from pretty much anywhere in Lombok.

Benang Stokel Waterfall

Alright, with that out of the way, let’s get into the actual Lombok waterfalls! First on the list is Benang Stokel Waterfall, or Air Terjun Benang Stokel as it’s known to locals.

This one is impossible to miss. Just follow the path for an easy walk of around 15 minutes until you reach the clearing.

Benang Stokel has three spouts, each pouring into a shallow pool. In saying that, if you visit these waterfalls in the dry season, expect only the main one to be at full force. Unfortunately, you can’t swim at these waterfalls, since the pool is very shallow. However, you can still get a good natural waterfall shower in.

Benang Kelambu Waterfall

From Benang Stokel follow the maps and signs to reach Benang Kelambu waterfall. The walk is a short 15-minute one, up the jungle roads, past banana plantations and ending up with a steep descent down to the last waterfall location.

Air Terjun Benang Kelambu is one of my favorite waterfalls in Lombok, purely because it is so unique. Kelambu translates to “net” in Indonesian, and it’s easy to see why. The water flows gently down a lush, green wall that looks almost like a portal to another world.

The wall is wide, with several soothing cascades flowing gently into a man-made concrete swimming pool.

TIP: You might be tempted to walk straight to the main waterfall and swimming pool. However, just to the left past the steps and behind a curtain of vines and trees is another small waterfall. From here, you can even walk up to your right to get an epic shower inside Benang Kelambu waterfall.

3 More Hidden Waterfalls

What many people don’t know about Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu waterfalls is that there are actually 3 more waterfalls here! If you hire a local guide, he’ll probably show you where they are if you ask.

If not, then you can read my full blog post about them.

Overall, we had an epic time at these waterfalls. I’d rank them up there with my favorite in Lombok. After a long day of waterfall-chasing, we made the tiring drive back to Senggigi just in time for sunset on Pantai Malase with some local legends.

How was your experience at Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu waterfalls? I’d love to hear them.
