5 Epic Senggigi Beaches to Visit in West Lombok

5 Epic Senggigi Beaches to Visit in West Lombok

Senggigi really offers the best of both worlds for those looking for adventure. From epic Senggigi Beaches to fields of symmetrical palm trees, it’s got enough of the tropical comforts, while still feeling a little off the beaten path.

It’s true that Senggigi doesn’t receive as much attention as its southern neighbor, Kuta Lombok. However, there’ll be many people that will welcome the chill vibe. Below I’ve listed five incredible Senggigi Beaches that will convince you to skip on the crowds and hit the beach!

Map of the Best Senggigi Beaches

What kind of Lombok beach guide would this be without a quick and useful map? Here are the Google pin locations of my top five favorite Senggigi Beaches to help you find them. If you’re looking for them yourself, then it might be helpful to know that the Indonesian word for beach is Pantai. As a result, many of the Google pin locations have the Indonesian name, for example; Pantai Nipah.

5 of the Best Senggigi Beaches and How to Find Them

To get to these beaches around Senggigi, you can either rent your own motorbike or pay for transport. If you’re unsure about a fair transport price, you can always check Grab or Gojek to help you negotiate, or just use it to book.

However, the Senggigi Coastal road is one of my favorite sections of Lombok. Trust me, you’ll probably want to drive this yourself. This way, you’ll also be able to stop at several Senggigi beaches at your own pace. I paid 70 000 IDR for a near-new Honda Beat with a full tank, which I thought was good value.

So, with that out of the way, let’s get into the list of the best Senggigi Beaches.

Senggigi Beach

If you’re staying around the main Senggigi Beach tourist area, then the closest beach to you is Senggigi Beach. If you want to have a swim and chill under the palm trees, then this is great, since you can literally walk here.

The beach is a deep, wide bay with several boats moored further out. On the south end, there’s a far-stretching point with surrounding reef reaching its way out to sea. It can be a little too shallow to swim here, but it’s still an impressive sight. I couldn’t help but launch the drone up to get a better view from above.

Nipah Beach

My favorite beach in Senggigi is Nipah Beach. To get here, you’ll need to take the scenic coastal road north, about 20-minutes from Senggigi. However, you’ll probably want to allocate a little more time, since there are some incredible viewpoints along the way to Nipah Beach.

Nipah Beach is a wide stretch of white sand, backed onto by huge fields of symmetrical coconut trees. The shore is speckled with low hanging palms and beached fishing boats. When I came here in September, there were almost no other tourists on the entire beach. To access the water, you’ll walk or ride through a magical field of coconut palms. This is perfect for snapping some tropical photos.

On a calm day, Nipah Beach is great for swimming and snorkeling. The edge of the water is sandy in most places, so you won’t trample on any coral. However, if you swim out a little further into Nipah Beach bay, there’s plenty of healthy hard corals for snorkeling.

Malimbu Beach

Famous for the tall, palm-covered hilltop viewpoint, Malimbu Beach is also one of the best Senggigi Beaches for swimming.

This one is a little rounder and deeper than Nipah Beach, and you’ll almost definitely have it to yourself. My recommendation is to find a spot on the southern end of the beach, just after the steep descent from Malimbu Hill.

Here, you’ll find a private little oasis shaded by tall palm trees. It’s an epic spot to spend the afternoon and has definitely earnt its spot on this list of best Senggigi Beaches. Also, either before or after you visit Malimbu Beach, you might want to visit the hill viewpoint, which is the highest point on the Senggigi coastline.

Pandanan Beach

Another off-the-beaten-path location around Senggigi is Pandanan Beach. After Nipah Beach, Pandanan comes in at a close second for me. While it’s the furthest beach from Senggigi on this list, it’s arguably the most beautiful and peaceful.

Similarly to most of the other Senggigi beaches, Pandanan Beach also has its fair share of coconut trees. The water is crystal clear and without rows of moored fishing boats. This makes it a great place to swim and genuinely unwind.

On Pandanan Beach, there are only a few small warungs and a couple of locals selling coconuts. So, if you’re hungry, grab a 15 000 RP coconut or a Nasi Balap on the beach.

Kerandangan Beach

Looking for a Senggigi black sand beach? One of the unique features of Lombok is that it has a mix of both white, pinkish and black sand beaches in relatively close proximity.

Just around the corner from Senggigi Beach is Kerandangan Beach. This is a long, wide stretch of black sand with a few warungs and attached resort. I’m assuming that the shade of black changes from time to time, but I found that the southern corner had the darkest black sand on the beach.

Besides the unique black sand, my favorite part about Kerandangan Beach is the perfectly symmetrical palm tree plantation behind it. While nearly all of the Senggigi beaches have plenty of palms, this one is probably the best for grabbing some epic shots on the bike.

Where to Stay in Senggigi – Accommodation Guide

MY SENGGIGI ACCOMMODATION: OYO 645 Green Asri
In Senggigi, I stayed at this small hotel with a pool, huge bathroom, and TV for only $9 a night. I’m not sure if it was a low-season special offer, but it’s definitely the best value in Senggigi for that price. It’s a little off the main beat, but it’s definitely worth it. If you book here, don’t miss Henry the street vendor around the corner. He makes some of the best spiced-coffee I’ve ever tried and offers Hotel-class meals for 12 000 IDR.

CHEAPEST AND BEST VALUE HOMESTAY – Sammy Homestay
Sammy Homestay is the highest-ranked homestay in Senggigi. It’s just around the corner in Mangsit, a few minutes walk from Senggigi Beach. A double room will cost $8 and includes breakfast. The rooms are some of the biggest in the area and the owners are super friendly and helpful.

SUNSET BEACH VIEWS ON THE CLIFF FOR UNDER $40: Pasific Beach Cottages
If I had a higher budget in Senggigi, this would be the place I would have booked. It’s located on the cliffside near Senggigi Beach, where you can catch views from your balcony or the pool. In terms of value, this is as good as you’ll find in perhaps all of Lombok.
