Mekaki Beach is a long and wide white-sand beach located on the southern shores of Lombok. Although it takes a little bit to get here, Mekaki Beach (Pentai Mekaki) is well worth it for a day trip to one of Lombok’s best hidden gems.
How to Get to Mekaki Beach
Mekaki Beach is a little bit off the regular Lombok tourist beats. To get here, I’d recommend staying in Sekotong. This way, you’ll get to explore what is, in my opinion, one of the best adventure regions of Lombok.
From Sekotong Harbour, it’s only a short 30-minute scooter ride over the mountains on a good, sealed road to reach Mekaki Beach. From the Pelangan Gili Gede Harbor on the main Sekotong road, turn left onto a road known as “Mekaki Road” and follow it all the way up the hill. When you reach the top, you’ll have amazing views of Mekaki Bay and far out to the Indian Ocean. From here, slowly glide down the hill until you reach the white sands of Mekaki Beach.
Sekotong scooter rental price: 50 000 – 70 000 rupia per day
For those staying in Kuta Lombok, it’s a much longer ride to reach Mekaki Beach that takes up to 2 hours.
Another alternative to those who want to see more of Lombok’s southwest coast is to book an epic coastal day tour. This covers all the southern Lombok highlights, including Pentai Mekaki Beach.

What to Expect at Mekaki Beach Lombok
Mekaki Beach is completely undeveloped and a true coastal hidden gem! The sand stretches all the way around the bay and ends at a jagged cliff line. We spent hours exploring the beach, walking from one end to the other and swimming in the clear, turquoise water.
Just be warned that currents have been said to get fairly strong here. Make sure you’re a confident swimmer before entering the water on days with big swell.
Mekaki Beach is also considered a solid surf beach. You can find a decent sandy break right off the shore where you pull up on your scooter. There’s also a rocky reef seemingly in the middle of the bay. Just further down from this point the waves become mostly shore-dumpers which smash onto the thick, deep-sinking sand. This is perfect for body surfing.

Brand-New Mountain Road!
On the way back from the beach, I’d highly recommend taking the brand-new mountain road that loops all the way around the southern coast of Sekotong and back to the north.
After you reach the top of the hill, instead of continuing straight down back to Pelangan, you can veer right. This sealed road is one of the best condition roads in Lombok and offers some incredible opportunities to stop and snap some viewpoint gems!

Where to Stay in Sekotong
Since this regency is a little tucked away. To save money on transport, I’d recommend staying in this largely unexplored part of Lombok Indonesia for a couple of nights to check out all the best things to do. Here are my top picks for budget accommodation.
- Cocotinos Sekotong Lombok – The property overlooks the incredible secret Gilli islands, has a large outdoor beachfront pool, a wellness center, and has its very own digital nomad video editing room. A great choice for those wanting a quiet location.
- Krisna Bungalows and Restaurant – located in Pelangan, not too far from Sekotong harbor. Each double room is equipped with a fan and bathroom and is conveniently located in a quiet area. You’ll also get a free breakfast.
- Silver Fern Beach Retreat if you’re looking for a place in Lombok Indonesia to escape the crowds, meet some great people and unwind by the swimming pool, then this is it. Breakfast is included and the owners can organize loads of tours and activities in Lombok.
